Congressman Jefferson Shreve from Indiana’s 6th district announced the advancement of the budget reconciliation bill, H.R.1, which has been sent to the President’s desk. The bill includes provisions from Shreve’s “Build the Wall Act,” which aims to allocate additional construction funding for completing the southern border wall by using unspent COVID funds.

Shreve emphasized that H.R.1 offers tax relief for all Americans and represents a significant investment in border and national security. He stated, “H.R.1 — the budget reconciliation bill — provides tax relief for ALL Americans. The bill provides for our largest investment in our border and national security. And it puts America on a path toward faster economic growth.”

He expressed gratitude for the inclusion of his legislation aimed at securing the southern border and noted that its passage aligns with promises made during recent campaigns: “I’m thankful to have my legislation to fund and secure our southern border pass. The President will soon sign provisions of The Build the Wall Act into law.”

The congressman highlighted several key elements of H.R.1, including ending taxpayer-funded healthcare for over 1.4 million illegal immigrants while maintaining access for eligible Americans, making permanent the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, boosting American energy production, encouraging domestic manufacturing, and reducing taxes on tips, Social Security, and overtime pay.

Shreve concluded by stating that these measures are designed to deliver tangible benefits to families, workers, and employers: “We’re delivering meaningful results for Hoosier families, workers and employers alike.”
