The John C. and Susan R. Parsley Farm in Brown County has been recognized with a Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award for its continuous operation since 1837. State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman) and State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) announced the recognition.
“Farm families like the Parsleys are the backbone of Indiana’s agriculture,” Hall said. “The dedication and hard work it takes to maintain a family farm across generations is to be commended, and I’m proud to honor their legacy and commitment to our community.”
The Hoosier Homestead awards program honors farms that have remained under the ownership and operation of the same family for at least 100, 150, or 200 years, corresponding to centennial, sesquicentennial, or bicentennial awards.
“Given that agriculture contributes an estimate $35 billion to Indiana’s economy, it is important to recognize and thank our farm families” Koch said. “The Parsleys have been strong representatives of Hoosier agriculture for well over a century. I am proud to represent a family that has shown such a great dedication to our community and state.”
This year, the Parsley Farm was among 95 recipients honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair. Ceremonies recognizing these farms take place every spring and summer in Indiana. Since its start in 1976, more than 6,000 farms have received recognition through this program for their contributions to the state’s economy and culture.
