André Carson, U.S. Congressman representing Indiana’s 7th district since 2008, recently addressed a range of issues in a series of posts on his social media account. The topics included religious observance, immigration enforcement, and federal funding for Indianapolis.

On February 18, Carson extended greetings to Muslim constituents and others observing Ramadan, stating: “Ramadan Mubarak! Tonight, Hoosiers and Muslims around the world begin a month of reflection, renewal, and gratitude. I wish all who observe a blessed and fulfilling Ramadan.”

Later that day, Carson commented on reports regarding an incident at Miami Correctional Facility in Indiana involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He wrote: “Reports indicate a man died in ICE custody at Indiana’s Miami Correctional Facility.

Lorth Sim’s family deserves answers, and so do the American people. ICE has shown they have a disregard for human life. We need to know exactly what caused Lorth’s death.

I’m demanding DHS” (February 18).

Two days later, Carson announced federal support for Indianapolis: “NEW I secured over $13 million for Indianapolis. Each year, I bring home Community Project Funding to invest directly in our city. Learn more at https://t.co/oWj8n7hdau https://t.co/TAt5SFdJVR” (February 20).

Carson has represented Indiana’s 7th District since succeeding Julia Carson in 2008 after serving on the Indianapolis City-County Council from 2007 to 2008. Born in Indianapolis in 1974 and currently residing there, he is an alumnus of Concordia University Wisconsin.
