Alec Pierce has signed a new contract with the Indianapolis Colts, according to a March 11 announcement. The wide receiver, who was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, said his decision to stay was straightforward because both he and the organization wanted him to remain.
Pierce’s return is significant for both the player and the team. He cited unfinished business from last season and strong relationships within the organization as key reasons for his decision. “I knew at the bottom of my heart this was where I wanted to be,” Pierce said Wednesday. “I knew (the Colts) wanted me here, and I wanted to be here, so it was an easy decision.”
The wide receiver pointed to the team’s strong start in 2025 as motivation, saying he did not want to leave things unresolved after an 8-2 opening stretch. He also mentioned his connection with quarterback Daniel Jones and his mentor relationship with wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne as important factors in his choice. “I’m not surprised I’m here,” Pierce said. “I could tell the Colts were going to do what they could to keep me here, because I knew I wanted to be here. I knew this was kind of ultimately the end goal. So as soon as I knew they were going to be competitive with what other teams were looking at doing…then it made the decision easy.”
Pierce had a standout performance over recent seasons, leading the league in yards per catch for two consecutive years—22.3 yards in 2024 and 21.3 yards in 2025—and setting a career high with 1,003 receiving yards last year. Despite these achievements, he emphasized that he is focused on contributing even more moving forward: “That’s something that I know I can do, I believe in it,” Pierce said about taking on greater responsibility.
He credited Wayne for supporting him since joining the team: “Just from day one, he’s always been in my corner and he’s always had my back,” Pierce said.
Looking ahead, Pierce expressed excitement about having more opportunities on offense and helping lead the team toward its goals: “It’s gonna be big.”
